Preparing for a career as a professional musician in the wide-range of settings requires a high level performer. The broad field of performance is usually broken down first, by Classical/Opera or Pop/Jazz/Contemporary music (although exposure to the other is sometimes desirable). Concentration on a particular instrument, or voice is expected (Stage, concerts, television, theater, recordings, pit orchestra, touring, back up bands, teaching).



Following his years teaching harmony, ear training, and ensembles at Berklee, Steve led Berklee's offices of admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and built the Berklee International Network of affiliated music schools spanning the globe. In addition, Steve has worked with the GRAMMY in the Schools' High School All-Star Ensembles, consulted the creation of Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), vision of Paul McCartney, and lent his expertise to a range of trend-setting music education initiatives.

As the country’s premiere music school consultant, he advised students from the United States, Canada, China, Australia, Turkey, U.K., Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Israel, and Italy. Steve is also a founder and original partner in Music School Central’s college consulting program (Music College Consulting Services) which assisted over a hundred students/families identify and prepare for music school.

Steve received a B.M. in Music Education from Berklee in 1969, after attending New York College of Music with a concentration in classical clarinet. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Massachusetts Educators Association, and Jazz Educators Network, was an Association for Popular Music Education founding board member, and served on the advisory boards of the Chapman Music Institute and Lagond Music School.
